Get CPO Certified in Colorado
CPO Certification Classes
The Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) credential, administered by the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), is the aquatics industry’s globally recognized standard for anyone who operates or maintains pools and spas. Over its 50+ years it’s trained more than 400,000 operators. No prior experience required. Frame the “why”: water chemistry, safety, and code compliance aren’t guesswork — a CPO gives you (and your facility) the training to do it right and the documentation to prove it.
Why Get CPO Certified With Colorado Pool & Spa Scapes?
The CPO credential is the same nationally recognized standard wherever you earn it; but where you earn it makes the difference.
Here’s why local operators choose to certify with us:
- Learn from a working pool & spa company, not just a classroom. We build, service, and maintain pools and spas across the mountains every day, so the water chemistry, filtration, and troubleshooting you learn come with real-world context you can put to work Monday morning.
- Taught in person, right here in the valley. No need to travel far, no self-paced video you have to watch alone. Two full days of live, instructor-led training at our Glenwood Springs office, with a PHTA-certified instructor you can actually stop and ask questions.
- English and Spanish classes. Certify your whole crew in the language they work in. We run identical two-day sessions in both, so language is never the barrier to getting your team certified.
- A credential that opens doors. CPO is the aquatics industry’s globally recognized standard, required for pool-operator licensure in 25 states and recognized by Colorado health departments. It’s valid for five years and earns you 16 IACET CEUs.
- Everything you need to run a pool right. Water chemistry and balance, disinfection, filtration and circulation, pool math, troubleshooting, safety, and the CDC’s Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) — the full operator toolkit, covered in two days.
- Built for the people who keep our mountain pools running. Whether you’re a service tech, HOA or property manager, resort or condo maintenance lead, or aquatics director, you’ll leave certified and confident — backed by a local team you can call long after class ends: Madison on the Vail Valley side, Barrett on the Roaring Fork side.

What to Expect
Everything you need to know before class day
Your CPO certification runs over two full days, from the prep work before you arrive to the exam you’ll complete in class. Here’s how it works.
- Come prepared. Your CPO Handbook is passed out the day of class, but once your registration form and deposit are received, we’ll email a Welcome Letter with prep materials. Please review those before class so you walk in ready.
- Two full days, 16 hours. A live, instructor-led format, instead of a self-paced video you watch on your own.
- The exam is included. Your certification exam is completed as part of the course, with a passing score of 75%.
- Watch your email inbox. PHTA now emails certificates instead of mailing cards, so yours goes to the email address on your registration. Please make sure it’s correct when you sign up.
